Edlyn Lewis, a graduating EE student at Georgia Tech, will be the first black woman to represent Georgia in the Miss USA Pageant.

Ms. Lewis is the recipient of an AT&T engineering scholarship. She has also been on the Dean's List at Tech. She plans to attend law school and specialize in Patent Law.

Her outstanding record of achievements at Georgia Tech does not stop at the academic level, however. She has been awarded two Georgia Tech Leadership Scholarships, in part as recognition for her participation in the Student Judiciary Cabinet, the President's Advisory Committee, and Georgia Tech's Diversity Committee.

She has also served as a Freshman Counselor in and as a Connect With Tech mentor, as well as President of the African-American Student Union.

Lewis has been active in several programs geared towards improving the educational conditions of underprivileged youth in Georgia. Through fund-raising activities and mentoring, she has affected the lives of many high-school students in minority communities.

Lewis has achieved all her academic and extracurricular accomplishments without placing any financial burden on her family. She has worked full-time to pay for her college expenses. She has also had time to pursue her many other interests. She enjoys literature, and has written many short stories and poems. She has written a novel which she hopes to have published next year.
