We'll miss you, Al

"Toe meets leather!" Al Ciraldo used to say in an excited voice at the beginning of every Tech football game. Schiraldo's was the voice of Georgia Tech sports for over 40 years. Sadly, last week the voice was lost with the legend.

If ever there was a living Tech legend it was Al. All the glorious moments in Tech sports history were relayed to the faithful through his lips. Al 'made you feel like you were there.' His excitement and involvement in the game were contagious; the next best thing to being there was listening to Al Ciraldo.

In person, Ciraldo was warm, genial and gracious. He retired less than a year ago. His wish was to keep doing what he loved as long as he could, and he very nearly did. He received a "T," wrested from the tower, at a game earlier this year, and a scholarship has been established in his honor. His passing is mourned deeply by many.

It is difficult to imagine Tech sports without Ciraldo's voice. Life goes on, but Al is simply irreplaceable.
