Taxi Cab driver points gun at Tech students
The driver of an Assurance Taxi Cab pointed a gun at one of a party of three Tech students last Friday night while they were on their way back to campus from a Buckhead bar. The victim claims that the driver pulled out his gun when he stated that he was taking an unfamiliar route back to campus.

The victim asked to get out of the car, but the driver refused to let him out and continued to drive.

When the cab arrived near the residence of the three students, the other passengers asked if the driver had pointed a gun at the victim. The driver responded, "did you see a gun?" He proceeded to wave a gun out of the driver's side window as he drove away.

The Georgia Tech Police Department was notified and responded to the area, but the taxi cab was no longer in the area.

The gun was described as resembling a semi-automatic hand gun.

USC to hear bill regarding officer stipends
Next week, the Undergraduate Studeent Council will vote on a bill which requests that $1,452 be allocated from the Undergraduate Legislative Reserve account to fund stipends. This bill would allocate $726 to the Treasurer and the Secretary. To contact representatives to express an opinion on this bill, E-mail gripes@sga.

Town Hall meetings to allow students to express their opinions on the subject of alcohol
A series of town hall meetings will be conducted next week . The purpose of these meetings is to allow students toexpress their opinions on the subject of alcohol. There are five general areas from which concerns and ideas will be solicited: campus culture, education, programming, policy, and enforcement.

The meetings will be held on the following dates: Monday, November 17, from 6:00 p.m. through 7:30 p.m. in the Architecture Auditorium; Tuesday, November 18 from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. in Tennenbaum Auditorium; Thursday, November 20, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. in Clary Theatre.

All three town hall meetings are the same. They are offered on different days and times in order to maximize the opportunity for students to participate.

Community group attempts to change the name of Techwood Drive
The Centennial Community Leadership Council is heading an effort to get Techwood Drive renamed to Centennial Olympic Park Drive.

The group states that Techwood Drive links many of the most notable legacies of the Olympics. Changing the name, according to the group, would serve as agreat reminder of the Olympics. Additionally, it would help to change some of thenegative perceptions of the redeveloped area.

Tradition of gold blazers to be reinstated
Alumni are currently working with other members of the Tech community to negotiate a deal which would allow the traditional yellow jackets to return to Tech. They are currently negotiating between Barrys and the Mens Warehouse for the deal. Other manufacturers such as Russell athletic have also expressed interest in the deal.

The jackets will be majority wool with a cotton blend. They will have a patch of the Tech Seal on the left front pocket. They can be cut to either men's or women's sizes, and are nice enough to be worn to other functions outside of sporting events.

The goal is to have the jackets available by a bowl game or by the basketball season.

Reward offered for information surrounding recent arson
An arson fire occurred on November 1 at the home of some Tech students, which was located at 1063 Hemphill Avenue. Anyone wiht information that may assist the Arson Investigators in identifying the person(s) responsible, please contact the Arson Hotline at 800-282-5804, or contact Lt. J.P. Thiel from the Atlanta Fire Department Arson Unit at (404)853-7047.

A reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of persons responsible for Arson is available from Georgia Arson Control, Inc. and the Arson Hotline.

OIT creates an express modem pool
An express pool was created at the request of the user community which will accomodate users who only need to connect for quick activities such as checking e-mail or downloading a file.

The new dialin number is 894-2100. This dialin is comprised of 18 V.34 modems reallocated from the 894-2195 dialin. Each modem will have a ten-minute time limit.

Other dialins are 894-4139 and 894-2195.
