Members of the SAC II Planning Committee held a meeting on Monday to kick off serious planning for the upcoming SAC renovations.

Unofficial planning for SAC II has been underway since the Olympics, but the committee, in Monday's meeting, seriously discussed what things should be included in the expanded SAC.

"It is clear that Tech has inadequate recreational facilities for the size of its student body. It is my guess that the needs will exceed our ability to accomodate all of them in this new building," said Lee Wilcox, Committee Chair and Vice President ofStudent Affairs.

The committee will be meeting frequently in months to come. Members of the commitee hope to have defined the concept of the project in November. After the program has been defined, a cost estimate will be established and preliminary design work will take place. Following the completion of the preliminary planning, funding will be identified. The committee is striving to have the expanded SAC available for students by 2000; however, it is too early to discuss definite dates.

A number of students serve on the committee in order to give students a voice in the design of SAC II.
