Crew team compete in final Fall event

By Sara Willson

This past Saturday, selected boats from the Georgia Tech Crew team travelled to Augusta, Georgia to attend the Head of the South competition. For a long time, this race has been small and local. However, this year the Head became the fall Southeastern Championship race, bringing competition from a wider area.

The novice women 8+ finished eighth and ninth, while the men's 8's tallied first and twelfth. The women's championship 8+ took second, losing to Miami and finishing ahead of Clemson and Central Florida. The men's championship 8+ impressively captured first, once again beating conference rival Clemson. In the singles races, Mike Smith won the men's 1x. Zac Reed and Josh Vose came in first and second respectively in the novice men's 1x.

Although the fall racing season is over, the crew team will continue to train through the winter in preparation for the spring season. The team is always looking for more interested students, so if you like more information about the crew team, contact Sara Willson at gt8126c.
