DeKalb Rape Crisis Center sponsors Take Back the Night race
This event, held on the evening of October 18, will raise money for the Rape Crisis Center, a nonprofit agency which assists survivors of rape and sexual assault and their loved ones. The race consists of a one mile walk and a 5K run. Registration begins at 5 p.m. on the day of the race and costs $14 in advance and $20 on race day. Multiple Sclerosis Association of America to award scholarships
Scholarship funds are available for college freshmen, sophomores and juniors through the MSAA's PROJECT: Learn MS '98 essay competition. One $5,000 scholarship and three $1,000 scholarships will be awarded. Students must submit a 500-1,000 word essay on multiple sclerosis, how it impacts a person and his or her family on a daily basis, and how society can improve the quality of life for the physically challenged. All essays must include the registration and sponsor forms, a minimum of $7.50 in sponsorship fees, and be postmarked by June 5, 1998. Sigma Nu hosts First Annual Fall Softball Tournament
The Gamma Alpha chapter of Sigma Nu will be holding their First Annual Fall Softball Tournament October 18 and 19 at Piedmont Park. All proceeds from the tournament go to benefit the Phillip Clarke Memorial Fund, which is chartered "to financially assist Georgia Tech Students to participate in Campus Crusade for Christ's Christmas Conference, spring break outreach, and summer projects." The Fund was founded in memory of a Gamma Alpha brother who was killed in a hunting accident in the fall of 1995. The cost to play will be $85 per team of 10-12 players. This price includes a T-shirt and lunch for all players. The tournament will be co-ed and the format will be either round robin or double elimination, depending on the number of teams entered.
