Tripp Whitley and Suzy Robinson won this year's Mr. and Ms. Georgia
Tech contest. Both actively participate in numerous organizations and
have won several honors.
The most memorable times Robinson has had at Tech center around this
year's football season and the Swarm.
"Going up to Notre Dame was really great, and the sense of unity,
like at the Notre Dame game and the Clemson game where the students ran
out on the field, has been really good," she said.
"The best thing I've done for Tech has been The Swarm, giving
people an outlet for showing their school spirit," added
Robinson.
Robinson is the Swarm Chair in the Ramblin' Reck Club.
Whitley describes his Olympic experience at the most
significant.
"My Olympic experience was pretty overwhelming. It was very
satisfying seeing Tech and Atlanta finally in use for the Olympics after
six years of anticipation (and construction), and representing Tech in
the preparation of the Opening and Closing Ceremonies was quite an honor
for me," said Whitley.
Whitley was Music Director of Percussion, and a performer in the
Opening and Closing Ceremonies during the Olympics.
This year the winners revived the tradition of kissing the winners
of the Freshman Cake Race. Both commented on this.
"I think it's a good tradition to start back. I'll always remember
it. It was my first, and possibly only duty, as Ms. Georgia Tech,"
recalls Robinson.
"Yeah, he was really quite shocked...err. Oh, wait, the female
winner. That was the craziest way I've ever met a girl before, and I
usually wait until the second date for a kiss!" explained
Whitley.
Both spend their free time as far away from the rigors of academic
study as possible.
"I love the theater, and I love dancing, especially swing. I'm
involved with Drama Tech, so I consider that my outlet from straight
math and science," said Robinson.
Whitley reports, "I usually try to catch up with friend, sleep, or
do both at Taco Cabana."
Robinson, an Industrial Engineering major, wants to go into public
policy, marketing, or political campaigns after college.
"I just really like dealing with people. I like dealing with
problems and getting things started," explained Robinson.
Whitley plans to pursue a career in Acoustical Engineering.
"I have applied to several Graduate schools in this field, but I
would also love to work right out of school. I also plan to keep
teaching and writing percussion for high schools and coordinating for
the Night Shelter if I can stay in the Atlanta area," said
Whitley.
"I'll always remember it."
