These are the highlights from last Tuesday's SGA meeting--one of the shortest meetings yet this quarter.
USC Bill #97U076--Joint Resolution Concerning Student Fee Increases: This bill asks for the administration to involve students in the decisions to create or increase student fees at Georgia Tech. A stipulation in the bill states that students should be given enough time to be able to act on any fee increase or creation. Some debate in Council occurred over the semantics and tone of the bill, but passed Senate and Council with very little dissent.
The bill regarding the chartering of ReJOYce in Jesus Campus Ministries, according to the Joint Campus Organizations Committee Chair, Veronica Tai, will be referred back to Council. That bill had previously been tabled in Council and referred to JCOC.
Undergraduate Student Body President David Skinner announced that the search for the Academic Priorities Chair was nearly complete and that the position may be shared by two co-chairs.
The executive appointment of C.S. Representative Paul Gulley to the newly restructured Academic Senate Computer Ownership Committee was also announced.
A freshman was also appointed in an advisory committee to this committee. The freshman appointee should provide the committee with an insight as to how a significant portion of the student population is affected by this policy
The Governmental Affairs Committee announced that they are working on bringing a Mayoral Leadership Conference onto campus. Several student leaders from the metropolitan area schools and Mayor Campbell would discuss many city-related issues affecting students.
Miriam Drake, Dean of the Library, made a short presentation to the body concerning the success of the library in the past five years and the future and possible expansion of the library.
