Georgia Tech officially dedicated the new SAC Fields in an exciting ceremony on Monday, October 13. Many members of the administration were in attendance, as well as representatives from various organizations of the student body.
The festivities began at 5 p.m. with food. The Georgia Tech band performed music for the crowd at hand. The formal dedication began at 5:30 p.m. with Courtney Fried, president of the Sports Club, speaking first.
Lee Wilcox, vice president of student affairs, was the next speaker. Following his speech, he introduced President Clough. A plaque commemorating the fields was unveiled by Clough. The plaque will have a permanent home at Stamps Fields on steps that lead to the Sixth Street side of the fields.
After the unveiling of the plaque, Clough introduced the alumnus who generously donated a large portion of the money for the fields, Roe Stamps. The entire Stamps family was present for the ceremony. The cost of the fields to students was close to nothing because of the generosity of the Stamps family.
Following the official dedication ceremony, Buzz parachuted in with three other parachutists from the Parachute Club and brought the first pitch for the softball game between the administration and members of various student groups. The student team won the three-inning game by a final score of 5-3.
