Junior's Grill opens on North Avenue.
The Board of Regents authorizes Tech to change its



name to Georgia Institute of Technology. 1952
Tech becomes co-educational when two female
students enroll in fall classes. 1953
The Price Memorial Library is dedicated. 1955
The Rich Electronic Computer Center opens. 1956
The Alexander Memorial Colosseum is dedicated. 1961
Black students are admitted to Tech.
The Athletic Association displays the first official



Ramblin' Wreck. 1963
The School of Information and Computer Science is
established. 1970
The Fred B. Wenn Student Center opens. 1977
Fuller E. Callaway III Student Athletic Complex is completed. 1978
Tech joins the Atlantic Coast Conference. 1980
Buzz appears for the first time as the Tech mascot at the Tech-Florida football game. 1988
Buzz wins National Collegiate Mascot Championship. 1990
The Tech men's basketball team wins the ACC Championship and goes to the final four. 1991
Tech's first foreign campus, GT Lorraine, is opened in France. 1995
G. Wayne Clough becomes the first alumnus to become President of Georgia Tech.
The Atlanta Braves win the World Series. 1996
The Kessler Campanile is completed.
