Wanna teach some kids about the wonders of science?
The Elementary Science Education Partners (ESEP) Program at Georgia Tech recruits people with strong science backgrounds to help teachers teach inquiry-based hands-on science in elementary schools. Many elementary teachers are not very confident teaching science, in part because some took only two laboratory science classes in college. ESEP forms partnerships between teachers and college students. College students bring their strong science background to the table; the teachers bring their classroom management skills to the table. The two form a partnership that enhances science education.
ESEP at Georgia Tech provides training and other support services as college students help elementary-school teachers teach science. ESEP participants meet weekly with education experts to receive advice and tips to improve their teaching. ESEP participants receive a two-hour course credit (pass/fail) as well as a $100 budget to cover school supplies and transportation costs.
Interested students who would like more information about ESEP should check the Web page at www.cesimc.gatech.edu and follow the links to the CMP (CEISMC Mentoring Program). Oscar Aldana is also available to answer questions at 894-1327 or at oscar.aldana@cos.gatech.edu. Critique the dining halls while you still have the chance
If eating at Brittain has become just unbearable, now is the time to do something about it. The dining halls are running an online survey at www.gatechfoodsurvey.com/, and all students are encouraged to voice their opinions. Students who would like to evaluate Brittain Dining Hall should use survey code 861; students who would like to evaluate Woodruff Dining Hall should use survey code 995.
