The Georgia Tech Women's Basketball Team defeated Finland's Tapiolan Honka team, 104-93, on November 12. Though it was only an exhibition game, the women showed the potential to complete their season better than last year's 11-17 (3-13 ACC) finish.
Senior Kenya Williams finished with 22 points and eight rebounds, while sophomore Regina Tate had a double double, scoring 13 points and ten boards. Freshman Niesha Butler contributed 16 points and seven rebounds. Off the bench, sophomore Jaime Kruppa added 19 points, all in the second half of play. Kruppa helped the Lady Jackets at the line, scoring 11 of her 19 points with free throws.
The Jackets lost their season opener to American University this past Sunday afternoon. Tech was defeated 87-67 and only able to come within three points of American in the early part of the second half.
Head coach Agnus Berenato said, "I just felt there was never a flow to the game".
That was alright, because four Lady Jackets scored in double figures and one player broke a career record. Williams finished with 17 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore Candice McCallum and freshman Butler each added 11 points, with sophomore Regina Tate adding ten points and nine boards. Sophomore Kruppa had career-high 13 rebounds, breaking her previous record of five. Kruppa also scored seven points.
The Lady Jackets take on the Davidson Wildcats tomorrow in North Carolina with a 7:30 start. Though Davidson is a non-conference opponent, the Lady Jackets need to redeem themselves after their 72-90 loss last year.
