Blender nothing to write home about

After seeing thousands of Internet banner-ads promoting Blender, I was curious as to the nature of the album and decided to pick it up. My first time through the album, gave me many mixed feelings about the album. After the first few songs, the album began sounding a tad bit like Alanis Morissette's "You Oughta Know". However, Blender does not push the girl power envelope as much as Morissette did on Jagged Little Pill, but still hints at the whole woman's independence movement. The album sounds a bit girlish and immature but is a fun mix of a myriad of styles.
"La Di Da", a fun hoopla of assorted lyrics and "Sounds" is a fun little number. The second track, "I'm A Mess" is a look into the soul of the singer- songwriters and their relationships. "Smash" a fast mix of drum techniques and playful electronic sounds is, in my opinion, the best song on the album. Other songs in the lik "Misfit", "Genius", and "Underdog" add to the overall playful feel of the album.
The one remarkable thing about the album is the homely, small-club feel that the album invokes. This is surprising considering that the singers stepped out of the hustle and bustle of downtown Brooklyn.
Though the album has a uniquely poppy sound to it, it's nothing to flip over . While some songs do hold your attention and hold steadfast to their interesting feel, many of the lyrics lack luster and true emotion and most songs sound like angry rants. If you're into Lilith Fair and that scene then I'm sure that you'd like this album. For others the album is not worth shelling hard earned cash for. It's a decent album and that's about it, nothing to write home about.
