Highly touted recruits expected to improve Lady Jackets

Ashley Ebert, a freshman from Spartanburg, South Carolina, will probably fill the other guard spot. Head coach Agnus Berenato stated that "Ashley is the best kept secret in South Carolina." Currently, Ebert is concentrating on improving her three-point-shot. Freshman Milli Martinez (Imlay City, Michigan) is a great off-side rebounder, but her spot is not yet determined. Wherever she plays, she'll be pushing someone for playing time. Another freshman, Lindsey Aves (Waterloo, Iowa) will play at one of the forward spots.
Junior Candi Fails, a transfer, will also see time at the guard spot. She will help out the 2-3 position. Fails will more than likely be a starter, since she has two years experience as a starter at a junior college. Fails, one of the only juniors on the team, will help junior Danielle Donehew and senior Kenya Williams lead the team. After leading the Jackets last year with a 60.7 shooting percentage, senior forward Williams is definitely the team's key to success. Last year, Williams led the team in scoring (11.8 ppg) and rebounding (7.1 rpg).
The incoming freshmen and transfer will see a lot of playing time, partially because there are so few juniors and seniors. Last year, Coach Berenato played a lot of different combinations, taking just about every player off the bench for most of the games. Berenato hopes to find a winning combination of players, with the freshman seeing a substantial amount of playing time.
The Jackets' toughest opponents will be Duke, Clemson, and N.C. State (all in the preseason top seven). Other teams who will give the Jackets a run for their money are Virginia and Georgia, both in the top 25. The Jackets really won't get a breather this season, playing top-ranked teams every week of their season.
The first women's game is Sunday, November 15 at 2PM against American. The conference opener is against Florida State on January 2, in Atlanta. The Yellow Jackets will host two holiday tournaments during Thanksgiving and Christmas break. All Georgia Tech students are admitted to the games free if they present their student ID card.
