Tennis teams keep busy

By Bobby Sauer

The Tech tennis teams have maintained their winning records over the last month. The men have won seven of ten to go to 12-9 on the year. The women, after an 8-0 start, stand at 12-5.
Last Sunday, the men put on their best performance of the year, downing No. 12 Virginia Commonwealth, 4-2.
Before the VCU win, Jackets knocked off Mercer (6-0), Oklahoma (6-1), Maryland (7-0), N.C. State (4-3), Wake Forest (4-3), and Emory (5-2). Virginia, North Carolina, Duke, and Middle Tennessee State, all ranked among the top 40, have knocked off No. 56 Tech in the last month. Tech holds a solid 3-3 ACC record after four straight conference road matches during spring break.
The women have slowed since their fast start, but still are picking up some victories. On Sunday, the Jackets topped North Carolina on the road, 5-4. After a 7-2 loss to Clemson on Wednesday, Tech's ACC record is at 2-4.
Tech also defeated Old Dominion (9-0), Furman (9-0), and Southern Methodist (7-2) in Macrh. The losses have been to N.C. State, Duke, Houston, Wake Forest, and Clemson.
