Consensus Editorials
Star of the show
Matt Kuchar received his ten minutes in the spotlight and then some last weekend at the Masters. An unassuming, amiable persona and an amazing performance in the tournament has made him the darling of the national sports media for the time being.
Georgia Tech could not have asked for better representatives than Kuchar and Tech alum David Duval (Class of 1990), who tied for second place. CBS coverage of the Masters was inundated with references to our little trade school. The commentators even managed to avoid calling it 'Georgia Tech University.'
Kuchar and team take their game to North Carolina this weekend for the ACC tournament. May the weather be El Nino-free, and the shots of the Yellow Jackets fall where intended! Perhaps Kuchar and company can string together two fairy tale weekends in a row?
The fuzz cracks down
GTPD is cracking down on moving violations. Rolling past a stop sign is more likely to get you a citation than in the recent past, and the new radar gun has gotten a heavy workout in the last month.
A renewed commitment to enforcement is an encouraging sign for students who are accustomed to dodging speeding cars. If there is to be no stop sign or speed impediment near Sixth Street, this is the next best thing. With persistence, the police should be able to make the campus a safer place to walk and operate a vehicle. Drivers who don't understand the meaning of a stop sign will perhaps respond appropriately after a chat with an officer and one of those expensive little citations.
Winning Blueprint
Congratulations to the 1996-97 Blueprint staff, which produced one of the nation's six best yearbooks last year. This is no small feat for a group of Tech students who customarily have far more to worry about than putting together your Blueprint.
