Different theory of parking violation
To the Editor:
I wanted to comment on something [contained in the 4/10 Technique Consensus editorial] concerning parking permits: "It is an unfortunate fact that a portion of the Tech student population has the notion that it is too special to play by the rules of the parking game."
I do not think that these people think they are too special. I think it is the fact that the permits are so expensive and don't actually guarantee parking. These people do not feel it is worth their money, added on to the fact that it is pretty much free if they never have registered their cars.
There is no point in paying for a permit when the only thing a permit does is allow Parking to give you tickets when you cannot find other parking. Without registering your car with Parking, they cannot collect any money for the tickets they put out. I think that Parking is more at fault for being so lenient towards unpermitted cars.
I [am] in favor of towing cars without permits; if people actually saw consequences of not having a permit, I am sure they would buy one. As it stands now, I feel like the stupid one for buying a permit because it is more rewarding to have never registered my car with Parking. I am all for these new gates though; I think that will solve some of the problem.
