Guide to Star Ratings

****: If you are not sure what kind of music you're in the mood for, Supernatural, the latest from Everything (Blackbird Records), is just for you! As their name implies, they have a little bit of "everything" on this album.
Right from the start, Supernatural gets you moving. It contains ten catchy tunes that are fun to listen to over and over. The band is made up of six guys from Virginia, fronted by lead singer Craig Honeycutt. The upbeat songs and fun lyrics are great, but what stands out the most is the diversity of musical styles that are used on this album.
So what kind of music is this? Well it is not easy to classify. It contains rock, hip-hop, jazz, blues, folk, and funk! These styles vary from one song to the next. For example, the title track starts off with a funk sound, reminiscent of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, then goes into the second track with a hip-hop beat. Another favorite is a jazzy swing tune called "Good Thing," not unlike Harry Connick Jr's. style.
Perhaps the best song is one called "Hooch," an easy sing-along, that can best be compared to the likes of Rusted Root. In addition, there are also some acoustic songs, and even a little reggae. Most artists stick to one of two main musical styles, but this band tries it all. Luckily, they are talented enough to make each sound work.
With an album as good as this, it shouldn't be long before Everything becomes a household name. So whether you are at a party or driving with the top down, this album is worth bringing along.
