On June 15 of last summer, Georgia Tech's food service account switched from its food service supplier of 18 years, ARAMARK, to Marriott.
Since the food service switch, many changes have been made to the dining facilities on campus. Many of these changes have received warm greetings.
For example, last summer, the entire Woodruff dining hall was completely renovated in an effort to improve food quality, as well as circulation.
Additionally, the renovations were made in order to reduce waiting times.
Brittain's food preparation area was also revamped three years ago.
There are several items on the agenda for future improvements. Renovations to Brittain's dining area is one of these items. Additionally, plans are being made for the formation of the West Side Market, which will be a place where students can buy groceries and produce without having to drive to the Kroger. Further improvements in reducing the line-waiting times across campus are also in the works.
According to Rosalind Meyers, the Associate Vice President of Auxilliary Services, Marriott has had a positive impact on campus.
Meyers stated that the number of voluntary meal plans on campus has increased by over 600 since last year.
There has also been significant positive student feedback about the dining situation. Positive feedback has been especially prevalent from students on West Campus, who have received the benefits from the Woodruff renovations.
Overall, students seem pleased with the changes.
"Basically, Marriott is doing a good job, but there's always room for improvement," said Meyers.
