Tech terminates contract with WCNN and Ring Radio

Georgia Tech Director of Athletics, David Braine, recently announced that Tech, along with WCNN-Radio and the Ring Radio Company, came to the mutual decision to terminate the final year on their contract to carry Tech's football, basketball, and baseball broadcasts. This termination will become effective following the conclusion of the current baseball season.
The decision to end the contract ends a 13-year relationship between Georgia Tech and Ring Radio. Tech's athletic events have been broadcasted on WCNN-Radio, 680-AM since the 1985 football season.
"We have mutually decided to terminate our contract," said Braine. "We are parting as friends and in the best interests of everyone involved. We thank WCNN-Radio and The Ring Radio Corporation for their help over these past 13 years, but we felt that this was a good time and also mutually beneficial, to go our separate ways."
WCNN-Radio General Manager Dave Meszaros shares a similar belief.
"With the substantial amount of sports play-by-play that he WSB-Radio Group handled prior to our association with Georgia Tech, both parties have felt all along that Tech's interests might be better served elsewhere," said Meszaros. "We have truly enjoyed our association with Georgia Tech and the staff of the Athletic Association, and will continue to support Georgia Tech athletics as fans now rather than as business partners."
David Dickey, President of Ring Radio Company, also sees the deal in a positive light.
"Our association with Georgia Tech has been a positive one. We, too, felt that Georgia Tech would be much better served with a different radio partner. We wish Georgia Tech much success in the future in their search for a new home."
WCNN-Radio is operated by WSB, Inc., under and LMA agreement with Ring Radio Company.
WCNN will still be broadcasting 16 of Tech's baseball games this spring, as well as all post-season games.
According to Braine, Tech has already begun preliminary talks with several interested parties to secure a flagship station and radio network for this fall. Look for updates in future editions of The Technique.
