Eddie's Attic, long a fervent supporter of local music, aids a prominent local charity, Make-A-Wish Foundation, with a benefit jam on Sunday, February 15th. The proceeds of this inaugural "Make-A-Wish Jam" will help the Greater Atlanta & North Georgia chapter of this nonprofit organization fulfill the dreams of Atlanta-area children hindered by life-threatening illness.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation started in 1980 when Phoenix, Arizona, police officers granted a misfortunate boy his wish. This leukemia-stricken child wanted simply to be a police officer. By giving him a custom made uniform, helmet, and badge, as well as a helicopter ride, Arizona Department of Public Safety officers started what is now known as the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation of America grants nearly 7,000 wishes each year. These wishes, which average about $3,500 a piece to fulfill, are brought about by financial contributions from corporations and individuals, and from special events such as the Make-A-Wish Jam. Amazingly, 84 cents of every dollar raised by the Foundation goes directly toward granting wishes, making events and contributions all the more important.
While the primary purpose of this special affair is raising money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, contributors will certainly be pleased at the musical lineup for Sunday's event. Numerous impressive musicians are slated to perform.
Angie Aparo, Josh Joplin, and Michelle Malone, all having played at Georgia Tech in recent months, will be combining their creative talents to help raise funds for the Foundation. Some other noteworthy performers include local favorites Soup, an acoustic outfit who just finished recording their second full-length album, Jan Smith, a native Atlantan with years of experience in the music business, and John McVey, an up-and-coming artist now performing in support of his BWE Music debut, Circle of Friends.
The festival will consist of three shows at four, seven, and 10 p.m. All tickets are $12, with proceeds going to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Greater Atlanta & North Georgia. Tickets are available at Eddie's Attic, Corner Compact Disc, and the Make-A-Wish offices with a four-ticket limit per person, per show. Please call the local Make-A-Wish offices at 770-916-WISH for more information on the Make-A-Wish Jam.
