Contract awarded for installation of call boxes
Target completion date near start of Spring Quarter
By Greg Scherrer
In November, Cable Consultants was awarded a contract to install five new emergency campus telephones at the following locations:
At Cherry St. near the Library
Tenth St. at Atlantic Drive
Between MRDC and the
Mason Building (A11/A12 lot)
Area I Courtyard
Fourth St. at Fowler St.
These locations are at the top of a list of locations identified by students in cooperation with the Georgia Tech Police Department as needing call boxes.
The $37,828 contract is for the installation of the conduits, wiring, and pedestals necessary for the new telephones. The pedestals have already been ordered, and delivery is expected within eight to ten weeks.
"Barring any unforeseen problems, completion should occur around mid-February to early March," Police Chief Jack Vickery said.
After Cable Consultants completes their work, the Department of Auxiliary Services will install the actual telephones.
"Well continue funding requests for next fiscal year to add additional emergency phones at the other identified sites," Vickery said.
